Green Furniture
Ways we're helping the environment:
- Water based environmentally friendly paints and stains
- Most of the log furniture is recycled from tree tops and limbs that the lumber yards don't use.
- The stumps from our rustic tables are made from dead cedar trees harvested from swamps.
- A good portion of our unfinished furniture is made from parawood, which is a plantation grown "rubber tree". When the tree no longer produces rubber sap it's used for furniture.
Be Eco Friendly! 3 Ways to Go Green with Your Furniture
1) Reduce the amount of terrible chemicals being off-gassed in your home with unfinished furniture that contains NO PARTICLE BOARD.Particle board is laced with toxins that can be harmful for you and your family. Look for the Real Wood Certificate and buy only from manufacturers who are members of the Unfinished Furniture Association. |
 |
2) Re-use materials. Choose furniture that’s made with reclaimed wood. Here at Whistle Stop, we’ve got a great selection of reclaimed barn wood furniture. |

| 3) Recycle your real wood furniture when it becomes outdated. Learning to refinish furniture is fun and rewarding! Refinish it to match your new decor, or if you are ready for something completely new, sell or freecycle the furniture. Unfinished furniture is so durable, it will way outlast you. |

With real wood furniture, you get quality that lasts and lasts – no way this stuff will end up in a landfill. Plus, when you use environmentally friendly water based finishes (low voc paints), you get an even greener piece. Then, go even crazier and buy local! Not even Kermit could be greener.
